THE BOILER ROOM

Episode 1: Moths, Champagne and Stars

March 3rd 1924 Rockford, Illinois

The music was as thick as the smoke.

Roberta “Bobbi” Thurman flowed through the throng of inebriated patrons clustered around high tables, holding a cigarillo aloft in one hand and an Old Fashion in the other. Old Hat John with his weathered face creased by wrinkles and his tattered tweed hat ran his fingers over the ebony and ivory keys of the speakeasy’s piano his body swaying out of tune with the music as DB strummed his cello frenetically laying down a fat bass line.

The Lighthouse

Episode 1: The Lighthouse Keeper

The Keeper Had been stationed at the Lighthouse for what seemed like an eternity. He couldn’t remember anything except the war, but even that was hazy at best. There were trenches and mud. He felt his memories of it were always drenched in rain or shrouded in fog or the inky blackness of night.

The Island

Episode 1 Abandon Ship

The SS Amelia Rose rode over the cresting waves darkened to an abyssal black even under the moon's light. Her engine vibrated throughout the house, but that wasn't what woke Christian McCoy. It was the violent lurching to starboard as if the vessel were rolling and turning with the helm hard over. He hit the on switch for the emergency lamp over his bunk but his stateroom stayed dark. He tossed the covers off sweating as he realized the ventilation was no longer humming.

And the house ceased vibrating.

You see my name is Elias Schwarz…

The Zombie Queen

Disappointment.

Just like the one before, and the hundred before that one, and the thousand before them. Had she had a million disappointments. Perhaps. But the undead Queen of the living dead chose not to contemplate such a thought as her mind drifted through her legions of shambling corpses.

She was so unlike them.

Medusa's Lover

Icy was her stare and snarled were lips.

That was when she first fought Kallos, so many years ago that his hair was now dusted with gray. To him, their first battle was not some foray into monster slaying. He'd not relieved the Minotaur of his head when bowed beneath his blade, Tachýs.

The Golem's Bride

Mary laid on the grass touched with dew.

The headstone just only inches from her had her husband's name chiseled into marble and she listen to the cypress trees around the grave sway gently so far above her. She remembered how on that evening in Lake Geneva she'd astonished her husband's friends with her story of the creature…
